5 Tips For Sprucing Up Your Resume
StandardOne thing that’s crucial to remember when looking for a new job or career opportunities, is that you have to be prepared.
One way to be on top of your game, is to have a top-notch resume that is CURRENT and UPDATED. You do not want old information handed out to your new potential employers.
For example, having an old email address, or the wrong phone number listed on your resume, is just unprofessional. It could literally cost you your dream job.
Take the necessary time to spruce up your old resume. It can make all the difference in whether the employer reads your resume, or stacks yours in the pigeonhole pile. Basically it will not even be considered, and ultimately it ends up getting tossed out.
Here’s 5 Tips That I Practice: I’m going to share with you how I do it and how to help you spruce up your own old resumes at any time, and in a simpler and more effective manner.
- Master List Create and keep a master list containing all of your former employers/organizations information. For example, their physical address, phone number, the supervisors name, and any other helpful information. This may seem tedious at the time, but it will be worth it. The next time you are looking for a job, or for a better job, you will already have all your information readily accessible and available on this master list. Constantly input new information about new job positions and date of employment. I personally jot down a few of my job responsibilities. This helps me tremendously. Because if you find yourself in a season where you were out of work for a while, you may not remember off the top of your head, how to describe what you did later on 6 months to two years down the road.
- Copy Always save a copy of each new updated resume in a file folder. You can label it whatever you like. I like to label mine either, Templates, or, Copy Resumes. This too is beneficial when you need to find work quickly. People seem to find resume writing a little daunting. Unless you like writing, like I do, you probably want this to be as painless as possible. So if you follow these few tips, you will certainly save yourself some stress in the future. All you have to do is update your new information. Always try to add the current info to your file.
- Conciseness Use as few words as possible, but choose the best possible descriptive words of your work experience. Employers and Hiring Managers need to quickly scan your resume and understand your work experience. You want to be concise and not too wordy.
- Keywords The Hiring Managers want to see that you know and speak the lingo of their industry. Choose the accurate terms for your industry.
- Revise Constantly revise and edit your resume with new updated, and current information. Always proofread and spell check and have someone read your resume to catch for any misspellings or other grammatical errors.
Following these 5 simple steps is a quick way to spruce up your resume with as minimal stress as possible. I hope you find my tips useful and email me at any time if you have used these tips to lock down your dream job.

Believe In YOURSELF
StandardI love learning. And today I’m in a great mood after a long time. Because I love it when people underestimate me. This is Candid Chicana’s BELIEVE IN YOURSELF RANT!
Do you ever have people that say hurtful things to you just to trigger a reaction from you? When they try to insenuate that you’re inferior or somehow inadequate to them.
When the whole world tries to tell you that you aren’t good enough, don’t be discouraged. They do not know you or;
- Your dreams
- Your projects
- Your strengths
- Your beliefs
- Your perseverance
- Your past achievements
- Your new ambitions
- Your daily hussle and grind
- Your strong will
- Your foundation
- Your work ethic
- Your IDEAS
I wouldn’t trade my ideas for all the money in the world. Write them all down in a journal. Because even if you can’t use it right now, it’s always there for later. I’ve read that about writing ideas. But I think we can apply that to all of our ideas.
Business Startups, Book Topics, Recipes, Music, Applications, Websites, Just About Any Creation We Can Think Of.
And let them laugh at you, they don’t have to see your value. You just have TO KNOW YOUR OWN VALUE. You have to keep your eyes on your own lane. Thats how you reach your destination. Too many people think life is about competing. They lose focus because they start playing the compare and compete game.
They compete with the craziest things too. You see people competing about their spouses, their marriages, their children, their weight, their education, their wealth, their “cribs” homes, their “rides” cars, their “titles”, such as rank in their positions and many more things .
I’m prettier/skinnier than her. I have/make more money than him. I have a better career. I own 4 automobiles. I’m more attractive. I have nicer clothes. My house is bigger than his/hers. My kids go to private school. My husband is better than yours/hers,Etc….etc…. Literally everything starts to become a competition.
Arrogantly, some people act as if they have never struggled or been down on their luck. That’s unfortunate, because everyone has the power to help others. But instead of being humble and genuine, they forget that at one point they had some bumps in the road, that at one time they were at rock bottom.
You just have to keep going. If you’re doing your best and trying to do something to help others, but people don’t believe in you or your ideas, then you have to just believe in yourself. I always try things even when Im afraid. And 90% of the time, I do those new things afraid. Some people will even hate that about you too.
Quick little side story:
When I was going through training to become a correctional officer, I had this one guy in my group (mind you we were assigned to our groups), look at me and tell me in front of many of our group members, my peers, “You’re a follower.”
I just stared him down with that “resting bitch face” as they call it.

You know like that one meme with our favorite bad girl Scarlet from Gone With The Wind and told him,
“Well, in order to be a great leader, you must learn to follow a great leader first.”
The former Marine in our group just gave me a high five in agreement with me, and I was happy that everyone could see that this guy was just being a jerk. He new instantly he picked on the wrong girl.
Here’s a pic of me in that gray uniform. Don’t laugh, I know I’m so chunky and cheeky! I’ll have to tell y’all the story about why I got that job one day. It’s a great testimony to the favor God has given me in my life. I was a single mom and God opened doors for me (like HE always does, and always will.)
But anyway let me get back to this story .

Yeah! Ugh! I hate when people try to step on you when you’re already the underdog. But I guess they see the fight in you. I don’t know. I don’t get it. I guess I’m thankful for people like that. They’re the ones that push you into your greatness.
I’m a life-long learner. I will be, until the day that I die. I don’t apologize for who I am.
Abraham Lincoln’s father didn’t want him to read books, but instead he wanted him to be more masculine and chop wood. But he was who he was. He was studious and loved to devour books. And he went on to become a president of the United States.
Let people be who they are DESTINED to be!
No one is inferior to you. Not even the homeless men and women sitting in downtown Lancaster street right now. (Fort Worth Texas street where the homeless gather)
A man or woman sitting in prison right now, might have more education and knowledge than you or I have, or even a higher I.Q. than a PhD recipient.
Money does not equal intelligence.
Money can not buy you true love.
Money doesn’t fix all your problems. Perhaps some. But not all.
Surround yourself with positive people, mentors, and teachers. Be that to others as well. We all have something to give. Something we can teach.
Now I suddenly feel inspired to read and see the Christmas Carol, because I LOVE that story. It helps me to reflect on the really important things in life. Life is so short. And we can’t take the money with is when we die.
Sure, more money equals fancier things. And there’s nothing wrong with that. Just don’t underestimate the value of a learner (a student, a scholar, a leader, an influencer, a coach, a teacher, or a motivational speaker) also.
WE ALL HAVE THE POWER TO POSITIVELY INFLUENCE OUR COMMUNITIES.
– DEANNA G. MONTALVO
Anyway, I’m going back to my solitary bubble. I have some creations to work on. Be nice to people, it’s the holidays.
Be blessed. Be safe. Merry Christmas.
